EGAKU®

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Unleashing our power to imagine and create the future
Empowering us to navigate these uncertain times

The oldest records of human art-making can be traced back to cave paintings, some of which are said to date back over 30,000 or even 60,000 years ago. Back in the Ice Ages, a time when there were no readymade art materials, a time when it was a struggle to simply survive - why were our ancestors painting pictures?

EGAKU is an art-based learning program developed by the artist, Kunihiko Yazawa, in 2002 and emerged from his artistic enquiry into the question why humans paint pictures - why humans make art. The art materials used in the program as well as the process itself are steeped in our unique know-how and experience.

The EGAKU Program is carefully designed as a learning experience based on cognitive science, adult development psychology and systems thinking. Continued practice of EGAKU can help develop individuals’ innate and unique creative abilities, as well as enhancing non-cognitive skills such as self-awareness, observation, expression, empathy and dialogue - skills that empower all people to be the authors of their own lives.

Even if you don’t fancy yourself as an artist or creative type, the EGAKU experience will inspire new discoveries, insights, and a sense of personal transformation. Come join us and explore the possibilities inside you.

This practice nurtures the individual’s unique creative abilities and creative communication skills. We believe that creativity isn’t a special gift belonging to the chosen few, but that like a muscle, with practice it can be strengthened and developed.

Creative Communication Skills
developed through EGAKU®

Continued practice of EGAKU®︎ can help nurture the five skills of creative communication - self-awareness, expression, observation, empathy and dialogue.

We believe these 5 skills are essential to empower individuals to nurture a strong inner compass, embrace and respect diversity, and create their own authentic lives.  Furthermore, we believe that through the medium of non-verbal expression EGAKU can dramatically enhance the core skill of self-awareness, leading to the natural growth of the four other skills of expression, observation, empathy and dialogue.

EGAKU can also be effectively combined with other reflective daily practices such as journaling, coaching and mindfulness to develop creative communication skills.
